Student of the Month – Ethan Hensley,
Burnside Elementary School
Adult of the Month – Chris McDonald,
Southwestern High School

Ethan Hensley – Burnside Elementary School
When the principal calls a teacher to inform her of what a student has done, usually there is big trouble.  This was not the case when Mrs. Mounce called Mrs. Atwell about Ethan Hensley. Ethan is a fourth grade student at Burnside Elementary.  He often volunteers to help do odd jobs in the classroom, one of which is return the fruit after recess each day. Mrs. Mounce and Judy have watched Ethan as he has entered the office and took notice how mannerly the young boy was. Mrs. Mounce even decided to call his teacher to brag on his politeness and respect.

LITERACY BELL CELEBRATION

After reading their first book aloud to a designated adult at their school, first time readers from kindergarten and first grade are invited to the Pulaski County Public Library to ring the Literacy Bell. While at the library, students celebrate with special guests such as Ronald McDonald, Pro Baseball Player, Josh Anderson or First Lady Jane Beshear.   They are treated to a lunch of pizza and cupcakes and, of course, they Ring the Literacy Bell. The huge bell can be heard all over the community notifying others of their accomplishment. Just before ringing the bell, each student signs his/her name in the Official Book of Names signifying that they have read a book aloud and rang the literacy bell.

Caption: Oak Hill Elementary 1st grader, Hailey Layne is pictured ringing the Literacy Bell at the Pulaski County Library and Grady Baker is pictured writing his name in the Official Name Book.

"COURAGE"

Student of the Month – Parker Phillips,
Oak Hill Elementary School
Adult of the Month – Jeff Rutheford,
Eubank Elementary School

Parker Phillips - Oak Hill Elementary School
Courage can be defined as the firmness of spirit that faces fear or extreme difficulty with fortitude and resilience of spirit and body.  It is with this in mind, that I would like to nominate Parker Phillips, a first grade student here at Oak Hill Elementary for the character word “Courage”.

In June, Parker fell and broke his arm.  It was the week he started Kids Kollege at SCC.  He was a trooper because he still wanted to go.  He went and had a great time.  He wore the cast for a few weeks, got it off and everything seemed as though it healed just fine.  He was officially released in August.  NEW ON-LINE PAYMENT OPTION FOR SCHOOL LUNCHES
The Pulaski County School System is proud to announce changes in the food service department. Parents/guardians now have the option to pay for school lunches on line.

Simply click on the “lunchroom payments” link (upper right hand corner). The link will connect to myschoolbucks site. The secure site has log in options for new users and for returning visitors. Follow the on-line instructions to set up a new account.

A fee of $2 per family (not per child) will be charged each time a payment is made.
Many families have already signed up with myschoolbucks and appreciate the convenience and control of the on-line payment method.

If you choose NOT to make payments through myschoolbucks, you can still use the program to track your child/children’s balances at no charge.

Of course, the new service is not mandatory. Parents may still pay for school lunches as they have done in the past.

As always, if you have any questions or need assistance with the myschoolbucks website or with completing a free/reduced lunch application, contact the food service department at 679-1123.
